New Products Designed for the Custom Shop are Unveiled at Florida Show

The Florida Woodworking & Furniture Supply Show in Orlando Florida last month, proved to be the place for product introductions for the custom shop. It is not unusual to find several new products on display aimed at the smaller custom woodworking professional at these regional shows. The following are a few of the more interesting highlights from that show.

When searching the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, it was very clear that software manufacturers were taking aim at the smaller shops. One example of software unveiled at this show is ProjectTrax (Custom Cabinet)®. ProjectTrax is specifically and exclusively designed for the custom cabinet industry, according to Alan Rosenthal, president of the company. With a cabinet industry professional, a process automation specialist and a team of software developers, CompuTrax Software, Inc. has designed and developed a stand-alone software application that fully automates the paper flow of the typical or atypical custom cabinet shop.

"What you get with our software is a continuous tracking of a custom cabinet project from start to finish; you can estimate your projects accurately and more completely through reporting, you can view your profit/loss on all your current and future projects at the click of a mouse, and you can visually see upcoming project deadlines and the necessary materials needed to complete these custom projects," Rosenthal said.

MAXYM robotic tenonerAlso new at the Florida Show was the MAXYM tenoner from USA Robot. According to the company, the tenoner has a set-up time for an average tenon of less then 30 seconds. To set up, one has to touch the tenon picture on the touch screen programmer, make a change, and a new picture will appear showing the new tenon.

The new tenoner can make round or square end tenons in stock up to 24-inches wide by 3-inches thick. Also, multiple tenons can be cut along a piece of stock with automatic or custom spacing. Simple and compound angled tenons can be cut with a tilting table and angled side fence.

The MAXYM tenoner is a heavy-duty machine with fully programmable production rates of 300 to 500 single tenons per hour. All tenon set-ups can be saved for recall with the purpose of speeding production.

MPE2224R CNC RouterThe MPE2224R CNC Router is the newest product release from Forest Scientific/Applied Cutting Concepts Inc., and was on display in Orlando.

It is designed for smaller applications such as modeling, rapid prototyping, education, and any other application where the part is small, but accuracy and repeatability are important.

"Do not underestimate this machine with its smaller work size (22"x 24") and price. It is very rigid with accuracy to 0.0001". Its motion control system is built with NSK & Thompson screws and rails and a powerful Centroid Servo controller. The rapid rate of the MPE2224R exceeds 700 IPM," said John Martincic, president of Forest Scientific.
