CADCAM Software for Smaller Woodworking Companies

Birmingham, UK – Aiming at smaller woodworking companies or those considering entering the industry, Delcam has launched ArtCAM Express 2011, an entry-level CADCAM package, priced at $149.

ArtCAM Express offers essential drawing tools as well as 2D and 3D machining. Additionally, woodworkers can tailor their software by purchasing modules to suit specific design and manufacturing requirements.

Similar to the more advanced products, Express is offered in both 32 and 64 bit versions and has a customizable interface. It allows users to import a range of 2D and 3D artwork, access more than 400 3D designs from the ArtCAM Express Relief Clipart Library, and create accurate inlays with an Inlay Wizard. The wizard makes precise parts that slot into one another to create a flat surface.

Numerous Modules Available

Designers can purchase up to 10 modules. I f they need to work with imported files such as DXFfiles, which are typically used for furniture and cabinetry design packages, or other layered file formats such asPDFs, AIor DGK,their vector layers including layer names and any applied colors will automatically be duplicated. The module also includes further functionality to edit and create vectors suitable for machining.

Hand-carving effects or unique textures, such as those currently used in door panels, can be added using a Texture Toolpath module.

Once authorized, a designer can select the tools needed for machining from a database of more than 250 routers and machine tools, including raised-panel tool shapes used in the furniture industry: Ogee, Roman Ogee and Roundover, to produce edge finishes.
