Prince George, BC – The Carrier Lumber mill, here, announced last week it is investing in a major upgrade to its planer mill.
Included is a full-featured Lineal High Grader (LHG) system with infeed bridge, a multi-track fence, grade mark reader, WinTally sorter management system, and a conversion of the existing bellcrank style stacker to a high speed, low profile design.
USNR Gets Install Order
Carrier commissioned Woodland, WA-based USNR to install the auto-grading system at the mill. The controls system will be upgraded to the ControlLogix platform.
The LHG system will be equipped with laser profile, X-ray and vision scanning technology to provide full automated grading capability. The mill will achieve significant uplift to the value and grade distribution of its products, as well as improve throughput and recovery, according to Carrier Lumber.
Long Histories
Carrier, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in September, has three mills in Western Canada producing 335 million board feet of lumber annually and employs more than 300 workers.
USNR, which obtained its first patent over 100 years ago, provides products ranging from single machines to solutions for wood processors in the plywood and panel, solid wood, and engineered wood sectors. The company has locations in Washington, Ohio, Florida, Oregon, British Columbia, and Quebec.
