The laminate industry has revolutionized commercial and residential furniture, partitions, flooring, moldings, window construction and more. Demand for more cost-effective products using veneers, both man-made and natural, are growing daily. Today, we see laminates used in garage doors, kitchen cabinets, signs, restroom/office partitions, window shutters, drawer sides, picture frames, and more; the list is extensive and growing daily.
There’s good reason for this growth: laminated products can be manufactured at reduced costs, using less expensive materials but with a quality that matches (and very often surpasses) such products manufactured using traditional materials and equipment.
High speed production processes used to manufacture today’s laminated products require adhesives that can be applied quickly and precisely. Manufacturers need to be able to position the laminate precisely and literally mold the laminate to the substrate. Manufacturers can’t wait for the adhesive to dry before continuing the product along its production journey either -- being able to seamlessly continue working with the product as it makes its way through the production process adds significant value to the manufacturer’s operations.
Manufacturers Stick With Daubond PUR
Of course, if the adhesive fails, the manufacturer is in for big trouble. However, Daubert Chemical Company is helping to eliminate this problem its Daubond PUR polyurethane reactive adhesive.
Daubond PUR U8000 series single-part adhesives are specially designed for difficult to bond areas, such as those intricate edges and profiles you see on crown moldings, window frames, and storm doors. Daubond PUR offers manufacturers the ability to laminate flat components, as well as to wrap and edge band exceptionally well, and is particularly suited for use with thicker membranes prone to high returns.
The adhesive is available in three standard formulations for edge banding applications, four for profile wrapping -- all of which vary in viscosities and open times. Custom formulations are also available from Daubert, and the company will work with its customers every step of the way to ensure production efficiencies.
Equipment and Adhesive Working Together
Daubond PUR from Daubert Chemical Company is demonstrating to manufacturers world wide that laminated products can be manufactured more and more cost-effectively than they ever could have imagined. Working with laminating equipment manufacturers in particular, Daubert’s chemists have formulated the Daubond PUR line so that equipment clean up requirements are virtually nil; further, viscosity levels and glue heads are precisely synchronized to maximize the efficient use of adhesive being applied, saving on material costs.
