Sherwin-Williams Introduces Formaldehyde-Free Varnish

Cleveland, OH – Sherwin-Williams, through its Product Finishes division, has introduced formaldehyde free Sher-Wood F3 Kemvar Varnish for industrial wood finishing applications. As a drop-in replacement for conventional conversion varnish technology, finishers can meet high performance and appearance expectations while reducing indoor air contaminants.

The new varnish is formulated to be free of formaldehyde and any ingredients that may emit formaldehyde, according to the company.

First Offering in New Line

“Consumer interest mirrors the growth of regulations and specification programs with stringent limits on formaldehyde emissions, and manufacturers are increasingly asked to provide this type of formaldehyde free, high performance finish option to their customers,” said David Kennedy, market director, kitchen cabinets at Sherwin-Williams. “The lower odor is also appreciated by manufacturers and finishers, making for an improved work environment and better end-user experience.”

The varnish is the first offering in the company’s new line of F3 formaldehyde-free finishing products. Other F3 topcoats and sealers are expected to be launched in coming months.

The “formaldehyde-free” F3 line replaces the company’s “formaldehyde hazard free” F3 line of products. http://oem.sherwin.com.
