Spencer Dick Named to Industry Trade Advisory Committee

Vancouver, WA – Spencer Dick, CEO of TigerStop LLC, has been appointed to serve on the International Trade Administration’s Industry Trade Advisory Committee on automotive equipment and capital goods (ITAC2).

The committee is a public-private partnership jointly managed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to involve business leaders in the formulation of U.S. trade policy.

The committee functions solely in an advisory capacity providing detailed policy and technical advice, information, and recommendations regarding trade barriers, negotiation of trade agreements, and implementation of existing trade agreements affecting its sectors.

The group also performs other advisory functions relevant to U.S. trade policy as requested by Commerce and the USTR.

‘Trading Partners are Cheating’

“Serving on this committee gives me the opportunity to be a small voice for something I hold vitally important to the future of the U.S. economy,” Spencer Dick, CEO of TigerStop, said. “A significant portion of our current crisis related to job growth and real income growth finds its roots in the dollar being the reserve currency of the world economy.

“If you want to buy oil or pay for imports or have a currency that will be accepted in the international market, you have to earn U.S. dollars,” he added. “The low cost goods we buy from countries such as China are solely connected to earning American dollars.

“Our trading partners have figured out that as long as they have the same or more dollars coming into their country than they are paying out, they are ahead of the game,” he said. “They are taking U.S. dollars and U.S. jobs to strengthen their economy. Our trading partners have been allowed to cheat and Americans suffer as they try to earn a living.”

While Dick’s viewpoint is not necessarily representative of those of the ITAC2 committee, he said he is optimistic that his 30 years of manufacturing and trade experience will offer solutions on rectifying the unfair trade practices, which have damaged the U.S. middle class.

Dick’s company, TigerStop, develops stop-gauge and linear positioning systems used by woodworking manufacturers, metal, steel, and fenestration workers, welders, contractors, cabinetmakers and others.
