Awards Competition Includes Furniture Design

By Mike Botta

February 9, 2012 – A New York-based online design service is inviting furniture designers, students and others to enter its second annual awards competition.

The program, sponsored by the Core77 Design Network, features 17 categories ranging from established fields to new emerging practices. Of those, 15 categories offer separate entry fields for professionals and students.

Core77 describes itself as
an international web-based community for designers and design enthusiasts seeking trends, information, resources and opportunities. Users practice in multiple disciplines, with a concentration on industrial design, design management, graphic design and interactive design, according to the service.

Entrants are invited to upload videos to accompany their submissions, providing personal testimony about their entries to an international jury.

Judging the Entries

The judging process combines global perspectives with local expertise. For each category, lead judges were selected from 8 countries and invited to choose their own jury pools from among experts in their fields. The results are expected to be broadcast live via the Internet, according to Core77.

In addition to recognition, winners in each category will be awarded a trophy created by the New York design studio Rich Brilliant Willing.

Among the Categories …

Categories of potential interest to Modern Woodworking readers include:

---
Furniture and lighting products or systems for private, public, commercial or industrial use. Examples include home or public seating, office systems, lighting, street lighting and workstations.

Examples include hacks, mods, recycles, upcycles, crafts, digital fabs, etc. (Note: There are no professional or student distinctions in this category, according to the group. Special reduced entry fee applies.)
