Cabinet Makers Looking for Industry Pros to Help Develop Curriculum

By Mike Botta

The Cabinet Makers Association (CMA) is looking for industry experts, including experienced shop owners and managers, to help develop the curriculum for CMA’s certification education curriculum.

“The bottom line is that the CMA’s Professional Certification Program is a business management credential for shop owners and senior managers,” according to Dave Grulke, executive director, who put for the the appeal in the October issue of the CMA newsletter. “Those who successfully complete the requirements of the program will be able to use a professional designation behind their name.”

Beyond Off-the-Shelf Textbooks

The newsletter points out that the designation indicates to customers that the named individual “has the background, education and experience to successfully do what they say they will do within the time and budget constraints they agree to.”

Grulke added that there are no off-the-shelf text books available for the subjects to be taught in the certification program.

“We invite each of you to participate with us in not only the development of our programming, but in sharing best practices you’ve discovered and helping us roll those practices into teachable sessions,” Grulke said in the newsletter.

Certification Requirements

To become a CMA Certified Professional, a CMA member must be experienced as a shop owner (or equivalent) and exhibit advanced and in depth knowledge of materials, design, safety, manufacturing equipment, tools and processes, and must simultaneously exhibit the personal integrity and business acumen necessary to run an ethical, sustainable and profitable business, according to the association.

Additional information on the certification program is available at http://www.cabinetmakers.org/certification_overview.html or by calling CMA at (414) 377-1340. www.cabinetmakers.org
